...that there will be an ability for a select group of people to pick and choose what political leaning of the day will be added/removed to the constitution having potential for long-standing negative impact?
Again we get this question a lot, and it is strange considering that what is happening today IS HAVING a long-standing negative impact on our country...our lives...and the lives of future generations.
What is happening today IS DUE TO a select group of people of the political leaning of the day choosing for all of us...without any actual voting by any of us. Election promises are vague and almost every time the "actual actions" taken once elected are far different than what was "said" to gain votes...and seldom make our lives better.
So to answer the question...
No...
...why...
Because our existing Constitution gives us Constitutional Dictatorship via Parliamentary Democracy that is democratic ONLY for those elected.
Elected politicians use their party seats to enact legislation, laws, acts, etc. their political party wants...and those parties with the most seats win...and their legislation, laws, acts, etc., are put into place.
There is little to stop a determined PM from putting anything they want in place...because the ONLY position in our Constitution that can do this is...the Head of State...WHICH HAS BEEN the PM and the Executive Cabinet since 1982.
....and who determines the PM...the political party with the most seats...
So our existing system of governance, with a Head of State that has all power held by the PM and Executive Cabinet is one we have been learning is extremely corrupt.
Corrupt because our government is not accountable to the People of Canada...in any way. They are accountable to the political parties and that accountability simply switches to the new "actors" as they are elected.
So, what we are proposing with The PowerShift is to break this corruption once and for all. It is pretty hard to "buy off" the Collective Citizens and Indigenous People of Canada...as the Collective Head of State...there are far more than 338 of us.
Decisions on how this would happen would also be done via public input and committees across Canada.
Democracy is only possible if those utilizing it are educated on how it works, how their government works, how their parliamentary system works, etc.
We recommend you read the book "Power Shift: From Party Elites to Informed Citizens" by Vaughan Lyon
This book is a blueprint on how to make all this work with Citizen Committees in every riding across Canada. This is something we've discussed several times as needed, and what we've been asking people to join and build, as signatures grow.
The main point is, for the first time, Citizens and Indigenous People will be actively involved in our own self-determination and governance...365 days a year. Elections will not take our individual or collective right to this away until the next election.
